Why Choose Us

Tailor-made travel. Active adventures. Privately-guided.

There’s a lot of choice out there when it comes to booking the trip-of-a-lifetime (or your yearly holiday if you’re like us and spend all your money on travel). Here’s a few reasons why we reckon you’re in safe hands when you book your trip with us.

Locally Led Adventures

We’ve been to the places we sell. We might even have spent a decent chunk of time there. However, we’re still not the experts and don’t claim to be. So, that’s why our adventures are led by the people who know their area the best. We’ve looked far and wide for the most passionate and knowledgeable guides who’ll help you get a glimpse of local life, even if you’re just passing through. These are the folks who can introduce you to their favourite spots to grab a bite to eat, share some of the history you’re unlikely to find in guidebooks, discuss local politics or teach you the phrases that will bring smiles to the people whose communities you’ll be visiting.

Immersive Experiences

As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. We wish we were that eloquent. We’re not. It was the late, great Anthony Bourdain. Food is the window to (a country’s) soul so they say and so most of our trips will include a cooking class, a food tour or a special meal that will give you a chance to dive into the heart of the culture. Or, if we’re not convinced that the grub is good enough to be the centre piece of the action we’ll organise an artisanal craft workshop for you to make and take home a souvenir. These are the moments that turn a trip into a memorable adventure.

Active Exploration

Get on yer bike! Or walk. Or kayak. All of our trips (some more than others) will give you the opportunity to experience a country outside of the bubble of an air-conditioned vehicle (although we’ve got those too). Whilst our active trips have hiking or cycling at the heart of your day-to-day whilst away, all of our trips will allow you to experience the country on two feet or two wheels. That might be an overnight hike on Kilimanjaro in Tanzania or a kayak on Lake Kivu in Rwanda. Don’t worry though, wouldn’t completely deprive you of comfort. After all, there’s nothing quite like a dip in a rooftop pool after hiking at altitude for a couple of weeks or the cold beer after a day’s cycle around a dusty temple complex.

Responsible Travel

It’s pretty much the minimum expectation now for travel companies to reduce their footprint, support local communities through tourism in a respectful way and to educate people on how to travel responsibly. We’ve built our commitment to responsible practices into our articles of association. It’s not the sexiest thing to talk about but it does commit us from day one to making our business a force for good. That means creating a materially positive impact on society and the environment as well as considering the interests of all of our stakeholders which include our customers, team and the partners we work with around the world. We’re constantly learning about how we can deliver this in practice and welcome all feedback but in the meantime, we provide emissions estimates for all of our trips, take all practical steps to reduce our carbon footprint and avoid irresponsible or unethical tourist traps.

Great Value

We prefer experiences to things and stuff. We’re not going to be staying in five-star luxury or travelling in first-class. You might even have to sleep in a tent, spend most of the day on your feet or look for a remedy that works for some, ahem, saddle sores. This has been referred to as ‘Type II Fun’. Challenging and possibly uncomfortable at times but immensely satisfying and enjoyable in retrospect. You’ll have great stories and a feeling of accomplishment. You’ll also not have to break the bank to go on an adventure with us. Think of us as tailor-made travel without the price-tag that comes with it. Group travel without the group and costs a bit more (okay, that’s not quite as catchy but hopefully you get the point). Prices that mean our local guides get paid fairly and you’re not going to regret spending!

Curated And
Customisable Itineraries

We’ve tailor-made a bunch of itineraries that we have done or want to do. We’ve also tapped into the traveler community (aka, our friends and family) to understand what other people want from their trips. After spending time with our very patient and knowledgeable partners in the countries that we operate in and after making sure that each element of an itinerary is exactly how we want it, we’ve got a range of trips we’re really excited about and confident you’ll enjoy. However, if it’s not quite right, is missing something you’re desperate to do or there’s an adventure we’ve not found, then just let us know. We’ll tell you if we can accommodate it and we’ll be honest if we can’t.

We Know Because We Go

We’re only ever going to sell destinations that one or both of our founders have been to. There’s practical considerations to that as it means we already have great relationships with our partners or knowledge about the destination that reduces (we obviously mean completely remove…) our reliance on AI for copywriting but it also means that you can have confidence that we know what we’re talking about and have built itineraries based on first-hand knowledge. We’re not going to know absolutely everything (some countries are pretty big and varied) but we’ll be honest with you and we’ll be able to tap into the knowledge of our trusted partners in-country to fill in the blanks.

Sound Good?

If we sound like your kind of travel company then get in touch! We’d love to help you put together your ideal adventure.
