No, we’re not a dog transportation company but we can see why you’d think that with our name. We were founded by two mates who love adventures and have shared trips and experiences around the world. After travelling to Tanzania and climbing Kilimanjaro together as 16 year olds, Rob and Jules have stood atop Island Peak together, enjoyed following England men’s football team around South Africa for a World Cup (despite the dismal performance), drove from the UK to Croatia in Ecto 1 (Google it and you’ll get the idea) and have shared a bunch of adventures since meeting at school. Earth Dog Travel was a chance for us to turn our shared passion into a business and we’re on a mission to help people adventure affordably. We wanted to create active and adventurous trips to destinations we love that allow people to get away from the crowds. Oh, and we do both like dogs by the way.
Hi, I’m Rob and I’m one of the co-founders of Earth Dog Travel. I’ve worked in the travel industry for over a decade in the UK, South Africa, Singapore and Thailand. Firstly for a global student and youth travel agency and then for a small charity challenge operator. After coming back from a gap year after university, talking about travel seemed to be the next best thing to actually doing it and I’ve been working in the industry ever since. Having had the opportunity to live for a few years in both South Africa and Singapore, it’s an industry that I’m incredibly passionate about. My fondest travel memories include hiking the Congo Nile Trail, standing atop Island Peak with Jules and our guide Ratna as well as cycling around Bagan in Myanmar.
Hey there! I’m Jules and I’m the other half of the Earth Dog founding team. I spent a couple of years living and working in Australia and New Zealand before a career in the advertising industry. After a brief but enjoyable quarter-life crisis volunteering and traveling in Nepal and a stint of motor-cycle touring around Rwanda, I set up a business running immersive learning camps in places that would inspire young people to pick up new languages and understand different cultures. The adventures we offer at Earth Dog Travel compliment that nicely as one of our founding principles is to avoid mass-tourism hotspots and find ways to connect travelers to the places they’re visiting through experiences and local people. Favourite travel experience? Probably wherever I’m off to next!
Depending on where you’re travelling to you might meet just one or dozens of the teams on the ground that make your journeys what they are. We’ve got super knowledgeable local guides, office staff that keep the wheels turning, cooks that can whip up tasty grub at 5,000m or at the side of the road and porters doing the (literal) heavy lifting on our expeditions. They’re ultimately the people who are going to make your adventure so memorable and we can’t wait for you to meet them! In most places, they’re people we’ve met whilst travelling ourselves so we know firsthand how amazing they are at delivering the trips and experiences we love.
Without sounding too corny, we’re wanting to help introduce adventurous travelers to some of the incredible people, amazing places and epic adventures that we’ve been fortunate enough to experience.
